Vel is the daughter of Selene and Nyx, the phrase “born when Nyx kissed the dark side of the moon” literally just means Nyx was going down on Selene. Neither Selene nor Nyx gave birth to Vel, as Vel was originally a ceramic doll made of moondust, a doll brought to life by Nyx's endless night.

Lore - Goddess of The Lunar Void

Vel is the goddess of the Lunar Void, the time in astrology when the Moon makes its final major aspect to a planet in one zodiac sign before moving into the next sign. The Moon travels faster than other celestial bodies. When it finishes its last connection in a sign, it floats alone until it crosses into the next sign. This can last a couple of minutes to more than a day, every two to three days as the Moon changes signs; a time where people often feel spacey, unfocused, tired, or dreamy. Vel is best associated with Selene’s rule over magic + dreams and Nyx’s universal truths, death + fate.
